Buckaroo Man features a Koshare (Hopi clown) that the sculptor saw performing at Moenkopi while attending a Kachina dance with one of her Hopi friends.
Koshares poke fun at human behavior and entertain the crowd with their antics. This sculpture is based on one of the Koshare that Kliewer saw: He was straddling a rather large goat!
Buckaroo Man is part of a series of sculptures based on Koshares that Kliewer has watched and enjoyed at Moenkopi. The other pieces in the series are:
Kliewer also has created a larger Koshare piece, Koshare Man, which is a fan favorite here in the gallery.
