Last spring, I spent four days hiking up Sabino Canyon with my paint kit. Water is one of my favorite motifs to paint; water in the desert is extra special. As I followed the creek up for several miles, the occasional deeps pools created by granite boulders and rockfall were magical places to spend time. The spring foliage and the reflections in the water were what attracted me to this particular scene. Wanting this piece to be about the visual joy of spring color, I kept the brushwork rhythmical throughout regardless of whether I was painting trees, canyon walls rocks, or water. I hope it has the energy of new beginnings and rejuvenation.
