Jill Carver - Dried Sunflower

"By coincidence, I was clearing out some old abandoned canvases and realized that they contained the very hues - neutralized remnants of seasonal color - of these sunflowers. Even in the early winter, they are elegant and noble. Collage is sometimes a part of my studio practice when exploring ideas for paintings. With a pair of scissors, you can't chase too much detail and must remain in the headspace of shape and color alone. It makes for powerful creative discoveries and often my paintings have evolved more directly from the collage exploration than any field painting or photo reference." - Jill Carver.
