"Where are the buffalo? He sings, he drums, he prays to no avail.

The buffalo hunters have taken their toll and life will never be the same. In the Plains cultures, every part of the animal was used - nothing wasted - but the hunters took the hides and left the meat to rot.

The loss of the buffalo was an event from which they could never recover."
