Veryl Goodnight, NSS - Daydreaming

"During the late 1800s, the Jersey cow played a huge role in the westward movement across America. In many cases, the cow trekking along behind the Conestoga wagon was critical to the very survival of the family." --Veryl Goodnight

In 2006, Goodnight created Country Living, a commission for Texas-based Blue Bell Creamery. In the year following the creation of this sculpture, the model for "the little country girl" grew 6 inches - leaving behind the child and beginning the journey to becoming a young woman. Goodnight captures this change in Daydreaming, as a teenager daydreams about the future instead of focusing on her chores.

Daydreaming was published in Western Art Collector magazine, December 2008, page 80 and is featured in the artist's book, No Turning Back: The Art of Veryl Goodnight.
