"This sculpture was created for the 2002 Trail of Painted Ponies Project that began here in Santa Fe. Based on the inspired, 'Cows Parade' which originated in Zurich, Switzerland, the premise was to take a common image, reproduce it so that many different artists could bring their unique creativity to each artistically enhanced animal, and sell them at auction for charity. The Trail of Painted Ponies raised enough to give over $700,000.00 to various charities. No other project (and many have sprung up across the country for Chicago to Buffalo NY) has involved so many notionally known artists as the painted ponies. So,I view this piece as the symbol of using art as a vehicle for charitable fundraising." - Star Liana York
