"The Grass Dance is the most beautiful and graceful all all the men's dances. It emphasizes long, fluid body motions which extend into the legs and feet to emulate waving prairie grass.

The mark of an expert Grass Dancer is his ability to keep his head nodding from side-to-side or up-and-down, in time with the drum beat, in order to keep the feathers on his roach headdress constantly spinning. The dance itself, and especially the footwork, creates the impression of weaving through tall grass and smoothing it down."
