Relaxed Figure is another masterful depiction of the human form in repose from sculptor Curt Brill.

“I always try to guide the viewer’s eye around the entire sculpture,” says Brill. “In this piece, I wanted the audience to stay contained in the form and not be led outward and away. Notice how the toes are slightly pigeon-toed instead of turning outward, to bring back into the work visually.”

(Compare this sculpture to Seated Figure II, where the artist’s goal is to push the eye outward with the wide pose.)

Brill experiments with his sculpture’s patinas - often having different finishes within the same edition. Here, this version of Relaxed Figure features the beautiful silver nitrate patina, which yields a complex range of silver and grey tones. The artist has then hand-finished the patina with steel wool in certain areas to create silver highlights where he wants to reflect light and draw the audience’s attention.

The piece measures 11" x 12" x 18.5", including the base.

Relaxed Figure can also be created in a monumental size. Please contact the gallery to discuss the process.
