Nozieres, Mathieu

Born and raised in France, Mathieu Nozieres has always been driven by a relentless pursuit of artistic knowledge. His journey has taken him across the world, from Romania to Belgium, India, Morocco, China, and Russia, seeking to deepen his understanding of painting, composition, and storytelling. With a background in comic books, illustration, and classical oil painting, he has explored many artistic paths, but it was discovering Western art that gave him a true sense of direction. As Mark Sublette of Medicine Man Gallery put it, Mathieu has this unique story—being a comic book artist going into fine art, traveling the world, searching for knowledge, and then finding Western art and saying, Oh... that’s it. This is where I’m supposed to be. Now based in Southern California, Nozieres was introduced to the Western art world through Medicine Man Gallery’s Masters of Drawing exhibition, a defining moment that opened the door to a new chapter in his career. While still early in this journey, he has already developed a distinct voice, blending cinematic compositions, dramatic angles, and unexpected viewpoints. Drawing inspiration from both the vast landscapes of the American West and the visual storytelling of film, he bridges classical technique with a modern, narrative-driven approach. His paintings invite the viewer into carefully orchestrated scenes, designed to pull the viewer beyond simple observation—into the very moment itself.
