"My project incorporates seventy-two wooden panels painted with oil paint and grouped in a grid pattern that resembles a quilt.
This assemblage focuses on the intricacies of color and texture as observed in nature from seeds, pods, and plant parts found in the Arizona Sonoran Desert region of the American Southwest.
Visual characteristics from a wide range of desert flora are depicted in an enlarged scale, thus drawing our attention to their functional and artistic forms. All differ in color, texture, and patterns of growth, yet form a harmonious landscape of natural beauty.
The entire artistic expression has evolved from my thirty years of paintings, sculptures, and mixed media site-specific works that reference plant life in indigenous settings. Combined, my works depict the diversity of nature and indirectly call out for us to maintain our respect, support, and understanding of differences among all peoples and nations. The natural environment does this.
So must we.
The arrangement of each painting can be altered, allowing the viewer to enjoy a different pattern of visual juxtaposition.
Individual painted panels can be sold separately or in groups of 9."
