Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery specializes in the life work of famed Western Painter Maynard Dixon, famed San Ildefonso potter Maria Martinez, and works by the early Taos and Santa Fe art colonies. The gallery also represents antique Native American Indian art, including Navajo rugs and blankets, pueblo pottery, basketry, Hopi kachinas, old pawn and contemporary jewelry, and beadwork. The gallery also exhibits work by the Southwest’s most acclaimed contemporary painters and sculptors, including members of the Cowboy Artists of America John Moyers, CA, Fred Fellows, CA, John Coleman, CA, and Oreland Joe, CA.

“I have found at my gallery that those artists who have a well-known track record when it come to quality and retaining their value have continued to flourish,” says Dr. Mark Sublette, the gallery’s president/CEO.” Examples of recession-proof artists are Ed Mell and John Coleman, who both continue to see sellouts of their work and demand outstrips what we can provide. All our gallery artists have made good sales during this recession as we have always limited the number of individuals that we represent by continually focusing on quality artwork by a small number of gifted artists. I believe as inflation starts to raise its ugly head in the next few years, these same artists of quality, both living and deceased, will find an even greater audience.”
Upcoming shows include New Works by Ed Mell, opening February 27, 5 to 7 p.m., with Mell in attendance. The show runs concurrent with the Tucson Museum of Art’s exhibition, Ed Mell: Paintings of the New West, and hangs though April 3, 2010.
