The Native American woman Sacajawea served a guide, teacher, and protector to Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition to find the Pacific Ocean.

Her husband (a French-Canadian fur trader) had originally been hired to serve as translator, however it was Sacajawea who actually helped Lewis learn enough to speak with the Native Americans directly.

After the journey, Sacajawea's life is a mystery with several different versions of life story.
