Veryl Goodnight - Passing Times 36"
- Medium: Bronze
- Edition: 25
- Size: 36'' x 50'' x 30''
This sculpture depicts a young woman astride a horse, passing by an older woman riding sidesaddle.
In her book, No Turning Back: The Art of Veryl Goodnight, the sculptor discusses her inspiration for Passing Times:
The western frontier became a stage for women to break loose from antiquated laws and costumes of the East. Sidesaddles and long skirts were, in a practical sense, dangerous.
I chose models that were a generation apart in age to illustrate the transition. I wanted the older woman to be curious, rather than judgmental when observing the younger rider.
This 36" sculpture is in six museums/public installations, including:
- The Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth
- The Museum of the Horse in Ruidoso, NM
- The Kentucky Horse Park Museum in Lexington, KY.
Note: The smaller, 18" version is shown in the images.
