Garcia, Tammy

Garcia, Tammy

Tammy Garcia is a renowned Santa Clara ceramicist and bronze sculptor. Garcia hails from a family of preeminent Santa Clara Pueblo artists, including potters Sara Fina Tafoya (her great-great-great grandmother) and Margaret Tafoya (her great-great aunt). Though she began her art career with pottery - a medium for which she is highly celebrated - Garcia also began working in bronze in 1999. The artist particularly loves working in bronze because it affords her the ability to create on a large scale and experiment with patinas, textures, and colors. Garcia’s work is in the permanent collections of important museums, including the Autry Museum, the Heard Museum, and the Denver Art Museum. The artist was also featured in a one-woman exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
