Standing Diana III emphasizes the fluidity of the human form. Sculptor Curt Brill wanted to create not just a suggestion of movement of the body, but actually to depict the rhythm of a body in motion.
To create this sculpture’s tempo, Brill fashioned improbable, fanciful proportions for the form. “This sculpture is like the difference between a news report and telling a story,” says Brill. “A news report gives you only the facts, but if I tell you a story, you get my view of things. Here, I saw something interesting in the foot, the legs, and I exaggerated them because I want you to see it too.”
Standing Diana III is an example of Brill’s use of form to suggest movement instead of his other technique of using texture to achieve the same end. For comparison, look at his work Standing Diana I, where the sense of motion is conveyed through high-relief texture instead of fluid form.
The sculpture is 27" x 7" x 10" and stands on a 2" x 8.5" x 13" base.
Standing Diana III can also be created in a monumental size. Please contact the gallery to discuss the process.
