10.25" x 16.25" framed. Green River in Echo Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Colorado. Study for "Wild and Scenic." "This is a view of the Green River, looking downstream from Echo Park, just below the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. Echo Park is one of my favorite places, and is a frequent subject for my brush. Though it is located in a remote part of Colorado, in a remote part of Dinosaur National Monument, and requires close to a 40-mile trek to reach, with much of that on minimally graded or high-clearance dirt roads, it has always been worth the trip. I learned recently that the Yampa River, which runs west through northern Colorado to its confluence with the Green here, is not, in fact, classified as a "wild and scenic river" by the government, despite being minimally diverted, dammed, or otherwise interfered with by people. I had always heard that it was such a river, and was in fact the last such river in Colorado. In any case, this whole area qualifies, at least in my book, and I never miss a chance to get back and paint it. This particular vista came from the same trip that produced "Silent Echoes", a late summer camp out with the river running low and 'showing her braids.'" - Stephen C. Datz
