  • Size: 48'' x 96''
55" x 103" framed. ARTIST COMMENTS: This is the largest painting I have ever successfully completed, and my first major Grand Canyon painting. It was inspired by my first winter visit to the canyon, which was a very snowy 3 day period. The view is from a short way along the Bright Angel Trail near the place where it starts at the South Rim. Maricopa Point is on the left, with Cheops Pyramid just catching light in the lower right and Isis Temple getting the full measure of evening sun. I have a number of great books on Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt, and the romantic painters of the Hudson River School and it was with them in mind and a notion that I’d never seen a painting of the canyon like this before that I embarked on the work. I worked on the painting over a 7-month period, and would compare the rigorousness and challenge of completing it to hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim.
