Veryl Goodnight - Fall Harvest (Maquette)

This sculpture is the maquette (i.e., working model) for the life-size version of Fall Harvest.

During the creation of the model, the artist and her husband, Roger, saw a mountain lion on their motion detection camera - Veryl and Roger came up with the idea of putting the unfinished casting on the bank of an irrigation ditch to see how animals encountering it would act. 

Their camera captured the lion again, carefully sneaking up on the sculpture. “I bet he was very still back in the shadows for a long time before coming in contact with the bronze,” says Veryl.
