1840-44Hand-colored aquatint engraving by Huerlimann after Bodmer. Sheet size: 18.625 x 24.1875 inches. Plate mark: 13.75 x 16.75 inches. Image size 13" x13.75". Framed: 27.25" x 28.5". Plate on front reads "From Travels in the Interior of North America, 1840-1844". The title on the front is printed in German, French, and English. Acquired from a private collection in Arizona. An old gallery tag from Mongerson Wunderlich in Chicago, Illinois en verso. This aquatint is from the scarce Leipzig edition printed from the original copper-plates. This is more limited in number and is considered more scarce than the first edition, according to David C. Hunt's article "Karl Bodmer and the American Frontier" in the Imprint Journal, Spring 1985 edition. This aquatint is from a sketch by Karl Bodmer done on April 18, 1834 during his journey back down the Missouri River.
