Colton, 1959, “Hopi Drawings of Kachinas” by Jesse Fewkes, 1903, and “Hopi Indian Kachina Dolls” by Oscar Branson, 1992. Acquired from a private collection in Florida. This kachina is from the Layne collection. Dr. Layne collected between 1980 and 2002, and is a vertebrate zoologist. He had a lifelong interest in Native American cultures. Dr. Layne kept a catalog of his collection and documented the Hopi carver's name and location, type of kachina, and published reference for the designation.
