This view comes from one such place – Kodachrome Basin State Park near Tropic, Utah. Whimsical spires and brightly colored buttes eroded into all manner of fantastical forms can be found here. Outside of Bryce Canyon I have seldom encountered rock of such vivid and variegated color. My first attempt to visit was foiled by a very strong thunderstorm, but the next day dawned clear and I was lucky to find a bit of water still running in the washes from the storm. This is an afternoon view from a wash off the Panorama Trail. Those of you reading this who are old enough to remember film cameras will no doubt appreciate the titular reference to those “Kodak moments” featured in the Kodak film company ads. I would say this view definitely qualifies in more ways than one." -Stephen C. Datz
