20.5" x 42.5" framed. "This alpine view is from one of my favorite "secret" painting spots (though it's not really very secret or difficult to get to). Situated in the far southern end of the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area in northern Colorado, this high valley is home to one large, named lake (King Lake) and several smaller unnamed ones like this one. I love being up high in the mountains in summertime, and this particular day was quite a treat, as it did not have the common round of afternoon thunderstorms that tend to gather along the Continental Divide in July and August. The light was good all day, and there were just enough clouds to cast rapidly moving shadows that could change the character of the landscape in a matter of seconds. This view is one such moment, when the cloud shadows aligned in an intriguing way and created this rather unusual compositional opportunity. The title is a rather tongue-in-cheek reference to the "high" I get from being in high places like this one on beautiful days." - Stephen C. Datz
