13.5" x 15.5" framed. Published in Western Art Collector, November 2017, page 83. ARTIST COMMENTS: Canyon de Chelly. My wife and I took a Jeep Tour up to Spider Rock, but as is so often the case, the “main attraction”, Spider Rock, was not as visually interesting to me as its companion formation, Speaking Rock. According to our guide, some Navajo parents encourage good behavior in their children by telling them that Spider Woman, who lives atop Spider Rock, will come down in the night and get them if they misbehave, taking them back to her dwelling at the top of the rock spire. Speaking Rock is so named because it whispers the names of the misbehaving children to Spider Woman.
