Additional Information

  • Circa: 1940
  • Size: 5'' x 6''

Acquired out of a private collection in Indiana. The owner inherited this pot from a friend's parents, who were good friends with Vicenti Martinez in Taos. Vicenti was a descendant of Don Antonio Jose Martinez (aka Padre Martinez) who founded Taos. The pot has "Taos Pueblo New Mexico" written in pen on bottom, noting the location they collected the pot. The incised signature in the clay of the pot is slightly worn and the following letters can be read: ...masita Montoya ..an Juan Pue..." This is the signature for "Tomasita Montoya San Juan Pueblo" which can be partially seen. The pot is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. A previous collector had painted a lacquer on the exterior of the pot.
