Ralph Tawangyaouma (1906-1973) Biography

Ralph Tawangyaouma was a Hopi silversmith and spiritual leader active in the early – mid 20th century. Tawangyaouma was a member of the Corn Clan and witnessed many significant events in Hopi history, namely the split at Oraibi and the establishment of Hotevilla Village.

After moving from Hotevilla, Ralph worked for a number of years as a full time silversmith at Vaughn and Fred Wilson’s Trading Post in Phoenix, Arizona. Tawangyaouma eventually moved back to Hotevilla Village until his death in 1973.
