83.1g, 39.5" length, 2.75" x 1.875" bolo. Artist hallmark on verso. Ex Arizona collection. The previous owner's husband was a childhood friend of the artist, Robert Leekya, and their families would exhibit every year at the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial. He acquired several jewelry pieces from Bob over the years, including this one. He was also the former owner of a multi-generational Native American arts and crafts business, starting with his grandparents. During his life, he worked as an educator, Assistant to the Director of the Lowie Museum of Anthropology (now Phoebe Apperson Hearst Museum), and Director of the Arizona State Museum, all while maintaining his family business until his passing in 2008.
