39.5" x 43.5" framed. Most people avoid weather; I chase it. Canyonlands is only three hours from my home so I can take-off quickly if I see a weather system about to come through. Here, the previous day had reaped terrific monsoonal activity and the morning after proved stunning. I left Moab in the dark with my morning coffee and drove to the West Rim trail in Dead Horse Point State Park, which provides great views across to Canyonlands. I was expecting a terrific sunrise but got greeted by fog and dense moisture clouds rising from the canyon floor! But as the morning continued, a spectacular show of unfolding clouds and encroaching sun light yielded a lifetime of painting material. I hope in this piece I have conveyed the softness of that morning moisture, the wetness of sand and stone, and the unfurling movement of the clouds as they rose.
