Frank Patania Sr. (1899-1964) - Shattuckite and Sterling Silver "Scroll" Necklace c. 1950s, 13.5" length

173.2g, 13.5" total length. Shattuckite is a copper ore found in southern Arizona and New Mexico. The Shattuck family opened a copper mine near Bisbee, Arizona in the late 1890's. They are credited with being the first to discover this mineral, which was named after them. Frank Sr. had the opportunity to buy all of the high-grade shattuckite available! He used it in his jewelry and the Patania family has very little left. Often confused with lapis lazuli, shattuckite is much more rare. This set of Frank Sr.'s work was made in the early 1950's. This set of jewelry pairs with a set of earrings and necklace, all in sterling silver. Made by the master. Artist hallmark on verso. This piece was acquired directly from the Patania Family from the personal collection of Mrs. Frank Patania Sr. When she passed away in 1974, her collection was split in amongst her three children.
