Apache Polychrome Burden Basket c. 1900s, 14" x 17"

This basket is in fair to good condition with stitch loss, broken stitches, and wear to the rim and leather. The rod in the rim has broken away from the body of the basket on one side, leaving a gap between the rim and the basket. Please see photos. 

Ex John Henry Fritz Fisher (1875-1944) collection. Ex California collection. Fisher's father, Henry, was the owner of Fisher Oil Company, the oldest oil company in the United States. His career focused on numerous energy-related entities, including the president of Redlands Electric Light and Power Company, which owned Southern California Edison Company. He was succeeded by his son, John H. "Fritz" Fisher, who maintained leadership positions for various electric and water companies. Fritz worked with prominent Hollywood filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille during the filming of “The Call of the North” at Big Bear Lake in June of 1914. He visited the Arizona territory in 1909 and began collecting Native American art, which has descended through the family.
