Colored pencil and ink on c. 1859 Ledger paper. Unframed. "Corn is vitally important in Hopi culture. Corn plants are female. Maidens that are available for courtship usually wear the squash blossom hairdo, but in this drawing they have been replaced by gears. The plants/maidens are being called to from an airship displaying a maiden figurehead. In the process, rain is falling, encouraging the plants grow." - Julia Arriola
