8.9g, size 6, 1.5" x 0.75" face. Acquired from a private collection in Arizona. The owner inherited this from her mother and father, who lived in Iowa but wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Number 8 turquoise is highly sought after by collectors. It was discovered in 1925 and was named Number 8, since it is an 8 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Most turquoise is 4 or 5 on the Mohs scale.
