Has been in the same family for almost 100 years since it was collected at the turn of the century. Thread Sewn hide and trade cloth, minor bead loss, stains typical of use. The Curry family, owners of the Curry Mercantile Co. trading post at Ouray, Utah from the 1880s until 1933, had collected this blanket. An Indian Agency was established at Ouray, Utah in 1881 for the Uncompahgre band of Utes on the Uintah/Ouray Reservation, and the Currys established their trading post there before 1886. In addition to food and manufactured goods, the Currys brought in Navajo blankets to trade to the Utes for hides, horses, and baskets. The collection, assembled over a period of nearly 50 years, was bequeathed by the last owner of the trading post to her granddaughters in 1961.
