Navajo Turquoise, Silver, and Leather Horse Headstall and Bit, c. 1900. Ex William Randolph Hearst Collection (J8336)
- Circa: 1900
- Size: 34'' x 10.5'' x 7''
35" tall with stand. Includes original Fred Harvey tag dated August 10, 1932. Ex H. Claiborne Lockett (1908-1984) collection. Purchased directly from the family. This is the first time this has been on the market. This bridle was purchased by Clay Lockett in the late fifties or early sixties from the William Randolph Hearst collection San Simeon. He sold or traded quite a few of these and kept this one in his private collection, as he felt it was very unique. He went to visit Hearst with Vincent Price, who was friends with Hearst. Clay Lockett was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Northern Arizona from 1959-1971, purchasing agent for the Museum Shop from the time it opened in 1965, regular judge for Museum shows, appraiser of acquisitions, and one of MNA's most generous donors having given two major collections of Indian paintings, kachina dolls, rugs, jewelry, and pottery. Includes a biography of Mr. Lockett from the museum.
