43" x 25" framed. ARTIST COMMENTS: This piece is something of a departure for me, as I normally focus more on broader landscapes and seldom do “portrait” style paintings of particular subjects. I found this cactus wandering off trail in Catalina State Park during a hike last spring. The late evening light in the painting comes from a study I did a few years back of a different saguaro cactus in the same place. When I told Mark that this has been one of the most challenging paintings I have attempted, and he asked why, I half-jokingly replied “These cacti are round. I don’t do round.” I chose the title to reflect the undeniable presence these magnificent plants have and their highly visible ubiquity in the Sonoran Desert around Tucson.
