Coushatta Triangular Basket with Handles, 2" x 8" x 7.5"
- Size: 2'' x 8'' x 7.5''
Acquired from the collection of Peggy Foard. Biography: Ms. Foard was a collector of Native American art, as well as a collector of art from around the world including Africa, Asia, South America and Mexico for at least 40 years. She kept journals and pictures of her collection and took great enjoyment in their beauty and the skills of the artists. Peggy requested that her collection be sold through the art gallery after she passed, so that other art collectors with the same appreciation may also acquire and enjoy her treasures. Peggy received a bachelor's degree in English around the age of 21 from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Virginia. She later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and went on to post graduate education and obtained a PhD in Educational Psychology in the 1970s. She worked for the SLC school district for a while, but her passion has and always was her collection of baskets and artifacts. In one of her writings found upon her death, she said she put names to the faces of her baskets and masks. She was intent on learning about their origin, the tribes, the art of weaving, basically everything she could find. She committed much of her time to research and learning. She was an amazing woman and, needless to say, an even more amazing mother.
