Artist's Statement The palm-lined avenues, the snow capped desert peaks, the beaches, the vineyards and hills with the dry California light and its intensely clear contrasts, have all contributed to my art in some way. After growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I continue to find myself returning to themes associated with this visual lexicon.
My interest in representational drawing and painting eventually led me to New York and into a successful career in illustration. My early influences, Tom Purvis and Ludwig Hohlwein, tended to be compositionally strong designers. The demands of illustration and poster design, with its simplified, sculpturally rendered images, have served me well, for that discipline and craftsmanship give strength to my paintings today.
