In some ways, this piece is about man's desire to control his environment through a spiritual wish or physical action. When I heard of the particular rain making ceremony, I felt it most exemplified these ideas. In this ceremony, smoke is considered to be the breath of the Great Spirit and used as a vehicle to carry the arrow which represents the prayer for rain. |
