Tucson, AZ. 15.75" x 13.75" framed. Artist's Comments: I really enjoy prickly pear cactus as a subject. It is abundant in the drier areas near my home, as well as in the areas I frequent around Tucson. In wet years I always enjoy painting the fabulous profusion of blooms. Among their charms is the way that light plays across their unique forms and bounces around within their clusters. This particular patch near Tucson put on this marvelous display of reflected light and color one spring morning, and is one of my all time favorite paintings of these distinctive cacti. One of my favorite challenges as a painter is tackling subtleties of color and value in the play of reflected light, whether that light is bouncing off cactus or snow or rock. |
