Cheryl Yestewa (b. 1958)


Yestewa is known for her high quality handmade stone beads.  She was born at Keams Canyon, AZ to a Hopi father and Navajo mother, and grew up in Phoenix.  The self-taught artist uses only the highest quality turquoise, coral, and opal, cutting, rolling and polishing everything by hand.  Yestewa creates simple and elegant designs calculated to highlight the beauty of the natural materials.  Her work is included in the permanent collections of the National Museum of the American Indian and the Heard Museum.
