"The eagle used as a model for this sculpture is a permanent resident of the Wildlife Center in Espanola, NM, only twenty minutes from our ranch. "Max" was brought to the sanctuary twelve years ago with shot gun injuries. He lost part of his right wing and several toes, but was able to be saved. He was too handicaped to be returned to the wild, so remains at the Wildlife Center as an "eagle ambassador." I donned him "Maximus", and gave him back the appendages he lost in this sculpture." - Star York
