This lovely Dixon is listed in Dixon's original log, number 329 and is fresh to the market. The painting will also be featured in the upcoming Maynard Dixon book by Donald J. Hagerty. Quartz Mountain was a boom town in Nevada, whose life was from 1926-1930. A huge silver and lead vein was discovered with as many as fifteen mining companies located here for its brief life. During 1926-27 there was even a town newspaper, The Quartz mountain Miner, which lasted from 1926-27. For Dixon this must have been an exciting boom town and he wanted to experience the place first hand. The town was located eighty miles northwest of Tonopath, Nevada, in Nye County. It is now a ghost town, and little remains except Dixon's wonderful painting of this moment in Western history. Published in American Art Collector, May 2010, page 61.
